SCDPS REPORTS FIVE PERSONS KILLED DURING NEW YEAR’S HOLIDAY REPORTING PERIOD AND ONE PERSON KILLED JANUARY 2 - JANUARY 4, 2015 ON SOUTH CAROLINA ROADWAYS

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five persons killed on South Carolina roadways during the New Year’s Holiday Reporting Period, which started Wednesday, December 30, 2014 at 6 p.m. and concluded Sunday, January 4, 2015, at midnight (a total of 102 hours). Preliminary details on these crashes are listed below. Eight persons were killed during the 2013-2014 New Year’s Holiday Reporting Period, which started Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at 6 p.m. and concluded Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at midnight (a total of 30 hours).

During the regular weekend reporting period beginning Friday, January 2, 2015 at 6 p.m. and ending Sunday, January 4, 2015 at midnight, one person was killed in a crash on South Carolina roadways.

 

As of January 4, 2015, four people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to nine highway deaths during the same time period in 2014.


Of the three motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2015, two were not wearing seat belts. 


Through midnight January 4, 2015, one pedestrian has died compared to two in 2014; zero motorcyclists have died compared to zero in 2014; and zero bicyclists have died compared to zero in 2014 on state roads and highways.
