SCDPS REPORTS FIVE KILLED ON SOUTH CAROLINA ROADS
DURING FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY WEEKEND

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five people being killed on South Carolina roadways during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, from Thursday, July 2, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, July 5, at midnight. The five traffic deaths were during a 78-hour reporting period, compared to ten traffic deaths reported during a 78-hour period in 2014.

As of July 5, 442 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 391 highway deaths during the same time period in 2014.
Of the 306 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2015, 147 were not wearing seat belts. 
Through midnight July 5, 49 pedestrians have died compared to 45 in 2014; 58 motorcyclists have died compared to 43 in 2014; and 8 bicyclists have died compared to 5 in 2014 on state roads and highways.
